The Perrin Technique™ is an osteopathic approach to diagnosing and treating M.E. and Chronic Fatigue Syndrome (C.F.S.). Dr. Raymond Perrin, an Osteopath in Manchester whom discovered by chance in 1989 that manual treatment alleviated many symptoms associated with ME/CFS, pioneered this technique. Following two separate clinical trials and Dr Perrin’s research at the University of Salford and in conjunction with the University of Manchester he was awarded a doctorate in July 2005 for his thesis on ME/CFS. In September 2005 Laurent Heib was trained by Raymond Perrin in The Perrin Technique™. The technique is based on Dr Perrin’s theory that different stresses on the body lead to overstrain of the sympathetic nervous system. These stress factors can be physical, allergic, emotional or infectious in their origins.
Dr. Perrin's research showed that there is a probable cause of the nervous system being overloaded by a build up of toxins in the fluid around the brain and the spinal cord. Certain poisons caused by infection or inflammation in the head flow through a bony plate known as the cribiform plate. This lies just above the nasal sinuses and poison would flow into the lymph ducts within the face and neck. These toxins would normally drain down the spinal cord and out of the lymph ducts which lie alongside the spine. But for ME/CFS patients this isn’t the case. The normal drainage points for them are congested and so this leads to a build up of toxins which in effect poisons the body and the brain. The Treatment The Perrin Technique™ involves manual stimulation of the fluid around the brain and the spinal cord. Deep lymphatic massage of the soft tissue of the chest, back, neck and head directs toxins out of the lymphatic system and into the blood where they can be detoxified by the liver. Also cranio-sacral work will be carried out. At your first treatment an examination and full medical history will be taken from you and depending upon the severity of your illness a diagnosis for your condition as to how long you might expect the treatment to continue for will be given. You will be given an explanation as to how the technique works and the symptoms you might expect to see from the treatment. With no poison affecting the brain and sympathetic nervous system normality returns to patients as long as they do not overburden themselves. Dr Perrin has developed this method through sixteen years of research and has successfully treated hundreds of grateful patients. Your first appointment will be for 1.5 hours and this will include your first treatment. You will follow on initially with weekly appointments for which you will need to allow 30-45 minutes per session. You will also be requested to complete a series of gentle exercises on a daily basis to encourage lymph flow and that information will be passed onto you at your first appointment. |
